The National Assembly of Vietnam has approved a government proposal to extend the validity of tourist e-visas from 30 to 90 days and allow multiple entries for visitors. The amendments to the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam were passed with an overwhelming majority of 470 out of 475 votes in favor. These changes will come into effect on August 15.

Additionally, the duration of visa-free stays for visitors from certain countries will be tripled from 15 to 45 days. Nationals from selected western European countries, Japan, and South Korea, which are Vietnam’s top tourism markets, can now visit without a visa for 15 days.

The decision to issue multiple-entry visas was made to reduce administrative burdens, save time, and cut costs. According to Le Tan Toi, the head of the NA Committee for Defense and Security, a three-month e-visa will meet the demand of foreign visitors who wish to stay longer for exploring investment opportunities.

Currently, Vietnam offers e-visas to citizens of 80 countries and territories, while nationals from 25 countries enjoy visa exemption for periods mostly ranging between 15-30 days. This policy is considered less generous compared to neighboring countries.

Vietnam eVisa is currently granted to citizens of 80 countries, as follows:
